AZFEC: Arizona’s USAID-Style Slush Funds Need To Be Cut Off

AZFEC: Arizona’s USAID-Style Slush Funds Need To Be Cut Off

By the Arizona Free Enterprise Club |

One of President Trump’s most important campaign promises was to bring accountability and transparency to federal government spending. Under the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), his administration didn’t waste any time getting to work.

Within weeks of Trump’s inauguration, DOGE had uncovered billions of dollars in waste and abuse of taxpayer funds under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Here are just a few of the ways the Trump administration discovered USAID was spending your tax dollars:

  • $1.5 million to “advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in Serbia’s workplaces and business communities.”
  • $2 million for sex changes and “LGBT activism” in Guatemala.
  • Millions to EcoHealth Alliance — which was involved in research at the Wuhan lab.
  • $1 million to boost French-speaking LGBTQ groups in West and Central Africa through the State Department.
  • $15 million for condoms to the Taliban through USAID.

This list barely scratches the surface of the waste and abuse that was discovered. But now, it appears it’s not just the federal government that’s been throwing your money around to outlandish woke initiatives. Arizona may have its very own USAID scandal…

Combat-Wounded Veteran Blocked From Leading VA Memorial Affairs By Sen. Gallego

Combat-Wounded Veteran Blocked From Leading VA Memorial Affairs By Sen. Gallego

By Matthew Holloway |

Decorated combat veteran Army Captain Sam Brown (ret.), a 41-year-old, West Point graduate nominated by President Donald Trump to lead the National Cemetery Administration as Veteran Affairs Undersecretary of Memorial Affairs, was reportedly blocked in confirmation by Democrat Senators Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).

According to a post to X by VA Secretary Doug Collins, Brown is being blocked by Blumenthal and Gallego “to score cheap political points.” He commented, “Awful behavior, senators.”

Rather than offering an explanation for his blocking Brown, Gallego lobbed an ad hominem attack at Collins writing, “VA Collins only cares about disabled Veterans that are his political appointees. He is going to arbitrarily fire thousands of Veterans from the VA. Awful behavior Secretary.”

Similarly, Sen. Blumenthal accused Collins of attempting to distract the American people in his own post to X. He wrote, “Stop seeking to distract. Republicans can bring these nominees to the floor for a full debate & vote whenever they choose. Americans & veterans deserve transparency & accountability around your political nominees & your concealed plans to cut 83,000 VA employees.”

Blumenthal and Gallego appear to be referring to an alleged leaked memo released by the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) which refers to VA staffing reductions driven by Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Workforce Optimization Initiative. While the VA has shared data with NPR showing that 11,273 agency employees nationwide have applied for deferred resignation, the department stated that staff cuts will not affect veterans’ health care with Collins accusing Democrats of fearmongering during a senate hearing on May 6th.

“I will not let you sit here and scare my veterans and scare my employees, because no one has discussed firing doctors or firing nurses,” Collins told Blumenthal. “We’ve always said that we’re going to keep frontline health care.”

Answering questions from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), he said, “We have been emphatic that we will not be cutting benefits and health care, only improving them.”

Reacting to the news, Brown released a statement via social media thanking VA Secretary Collins saying, “I’ve served our nation once with honor. I’ve been nominated by President Trump to do it again. Unfortunately there are Democrat Senators who want to block my service to the great USA, our beloved veterans, and their families.”

AZFEC: Latest Voter Registration Numbers Pour More Cold Water On Democrats’ Dreams Of Flipping Arizona

AZFEC: Latest Voter Registration Numbers Pour More Cold Water On Democrats’ Dreams Of Flipping Arizona

By the Arizona Free Enterprise Club |

This past November was a good time to be a Republican, especially here in Arizona. Not only did President Donald Trump win our state in a landslide victory, but Republicans expanded their majorities in both the Arizona House and Senate—despite being outspent in every single race.

While this turn of events shocked many in the corporate media who were convinced that Arizona was on its way from being a purple state to a blue state, we knew that voter registration trends told a different story.

Over the last couple of years, the gap between registered Republicans and Democrats in Arizona widened from 3.04% in 2020 to 4.03% in 2022. By April of last year, it had increased to 5.77%. And by November, it had expanded to 6.77%, a registration increase that proved decisive in President Trump’s overwhelming victory.

Now, 5 months removed from their electoral wipeout in November, there has been a lot of discussion about whether the Democrats’ political fortunes in Arizona would be reversing after their blowout loss to Trump.

Unfortunately for them, the latest voter registration numbers poured plenty of cold water on those dreams…

Kari Lake’s Role In Trump Admin Reportedly Moving To U.S. State Department

Kari Lake’s Role In Trump Admin Reportedly Moving To U.S. State Department

By Matthew Holloway |

Kari Lake will reportedly be detailed to the U.S. Department of State under Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to unconfirmed reports from anonymous sources who spoke to The Washington Post. The story has since been amplified by other establishment media outlets absent any official release from the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), the State Dept., or the White House. Lake has been serving as Senior Advisor for the USAGM, parent agency of Voice of America.

Lake, who recently joined the USAGM, had been tasked with helping “USAGM implement the policies and strategies needed to streamline the agency, its networks, and its grantees,” according to an email from acting USAGM Chief Executive Roman Napoli. If the anonymously sourced reports put forward are true, they suggest that, following a recommendation from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and White House Special Government Employee Elon Musk, the Trump administration could be preparing to shutter the USAGM and Voice of America (VOA) entirely and are detailing Lake to the State Department to continue her work there.

As The Washington Post reported, “Lake’s move is intended to help her coordinate closely with USAGM and the State Department to scale back the agency and its affiliated outlets to their statutory minimum, a third person familiar with her movements said:

‘She will be detailed over to State to accomplish this mission.'”

Lake told The Washington Post in a statement, “I remain committed to effectuating President Trump’s mission to modernize and reform the way we tell America’s story around the world while protecting the interest of the American taxpayer,” neither explicitly confirming nor denying her potential reassignment.

She added, “In order to do that effectively, we look forward to working with interagency counterparts including the Department of State under the strong leadership of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.”

Lake speaking in plural form as “we” could suggest that rather than merely herself, the remaining staff of USAGM and VOA may be folded into the Department of State entirely, a similar fate to what befell another formerly independent agency targeted by DOGE: the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

According to the Post, Lake presented the upcoming changes as a continuation of her current role in the Trump administration saying, “I am thrilled to be working on behalf of President Trump and this administration. He put me in this role because I’m a fighter. And I’m disgusted how Washington DC and this agency, in particular, has been screwing over hardworking Americans.”

As recently as March 15th, the USAGM announced that Lake was active in her role and in compliance with an Executive Order from President Trump (Continuing the Reduction of the Federal Bureaucracy), which had initiated a series of measures to “eliminate the non-statutory components and functions to the maximum extent consistent with applicable law.”

Among other actions, this included the abrupt cancellation of “obscene over-spending including a nearly quarter-of-a-billion-dollar lease for a Pennsylvania Avenue high-rise that has no broadcasting facilities to meet the needs of the agency and included a $9 million commission to a private real estate agent with connections.”

Lake famously made the determination at that time that “This agency is not salvageable.” She added, “From top-to-bottom this agency is a giant rot and burden to the American taxpayer—a national security risk for this nation—and irretrievably broken. While there are bright spots within the agency with personnel who are talented and dedicated public servants, this is the exception rather than the rule.”

RON PAUL: DOGE Is Necessary Shock To System DC Swamp Has Long Feared

RON PAUL: DOGE Is Necessary Shock To System DC Swamp Has Long Feared

By Ron Paul |

One of, if not the, highlights of President Donald Trump’s first months in office has been the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by entrepreneur (and the world’s richest man) Elon Musk. Under Musk’s leadership, DOGE has not just exposed wasteful spending— but worked to reduce spending by eliminating entire agencies and even cabinet departments.

For example, DOGE pulled back the curtain on the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Before DOGE exposed it, most Americans thought of USAID (if they thought of it at all) as an agency that provided humanitarian aid and development assistance to impoverished people in other countries. DOGE revealed that USAID’s humanitarian work was a cover for their true mission: making political and cultural change overseas. This is why USAID has spent millions on absurd “development” projects like transgender plays in Colombia, DEI schemes in Serbia and electric car subsidies in Vietnam.

Eliminating USAID would not mean the end of overseas development and humanitarian aid. It would mean that the aid would come from private charities. These charities can do a better job of providing aid than a government bureaucracy. As outrageous as USAID’s spending is, it is a drop in the bucket compared to the Pentagon’s over $800 billion (and on track to exceed $2 trillion by 2033) budget.

The “defense” budget is the third largest item in the federal budget, behind Social Security and Medicare. Few politicians will risk the wrath of senior citizens by voting to make any changes to these programs unless the changes are phased in such a way as to not affect those currently on, or close to, relying on the programs. Thus, any serious plan to reduce spending and debt must cut the bloated “defense” budget. Savings from reductions in military spending can be used to help support those dependent on federal programs as Congress unwinds the welfare state. Cutting military spending would be politically popular as most polls show a majority of Americans— including Republicans—support reducing America’s military commitments.

The poster child for wasteful Pentagon spending, which is thankfully already in Elon Musk’s crosshairs, is the F-35 —a $1.7 trillion disaster of delays, breakdowns and runaway costs. The plane, the most expensive military program ever, often sits grounded. The F-35 may be the most obvious example of wasteful Pentagon spending, but it is hardly alone. After all, this is the agency that brought us the $500 toilet seat. Shutting down boondoggles like the F-35 could provide revenue to help pay down the debt and protect those currently dependent on federal programs. It could also help ensure the forthcoming tax bill does not further increase the deficit.

DOGE is not the first effort to identify and eliminate wasteful spending. President Ronald Reagan had the Grace Commission, a sort of DOGE 1.0 that unearthed billions in waste—from the Department of Energy to the IRS. Their findings were buried by entrenched interests and a cowardly Congress. The lesson of the Grace Commission is that reducing even the most obvious wasteful spending requires the courage to stand up to the entrenched interests in both parties that benefit from the current system.

Trump and Musk may have the necessary convictions to make serious changes in the ways Washington works. However, they need to be prepared for the swamp to fight back. Democrats and their allies are already waging war against DOGE. To them, trying to identify and eliminate wasteful spending or even asking federal employees what they actually do is an assault on democracy. Most Democrats will join hawkish Republicans in seeking to protect the Pentagon’s budget. It would not be surprising if Congress’s bipartisan military-industrial complex caucus smeared those advocating cuts in the bloated military budget as “Putin’s puppets.”

The federal debt is growing by approximately $1 trillion every three months. To put that in perspective, consider that the federal debt did not reach the $1 trillion mark until 1981. Unless action is taken soon to reduce spending, pay down the federal debt and roll back the welfare-warfare state—America will face a serious economic crisis. Therefore, it is important that everyone who understands the stakes do what they can to support Trump and Musk’s efforts.
